Over the past three years Ty Badger has been a bodybuilder, a model and an actress. She has appeared in ads for active wear companies and starred as the had bloodsucker in CRYPTZ, an "Indie" film about a band of modern day urban vampires. One January morning before breakfast, photographer Lori Smith decided to shoot Ty - just Ty. No stylist, no assistant, no art director. All natural. In these images, Ty has become the essence of Spartan sensuality. Either by design or just good fortune, each of Smith's shots seems more captured than devised - they feel almost improvised - with Ty appearing both casual and strikingly intense. Altogether the tranquil photographs, taken near Nevada's Valley of Fire, represent an exercise in renegade simplicity, a beautiful subject on a cold wind-swept desert morning, seen through a refined eye.
